NAT 3 problem for the PS3; help...

I just picked up a PS3 yesterday and I've been having some troubles with the connectivity. The browser and downloads crawl when it works which is very very rarely, I have yet to test out it out on games though.

I've read that this is due to me getting Nat 3 as opposed to Nat 2 or 1. I've updated my firmware to 2.35. I've tried plugging the PS3 directly to the modem. I've tried attaining a static ip but failed (I vaguely recall a Streamyx helpline worker telling me that I would need to purchase it if i wanted it some years back). I'm still using Streamyx with a Prolink router. I reset the modem/router, turned them off and turned off the PS3 for 2 mins and rebooted. None of it has helped me with connection.

Any of you guys can point me in the right direction?
Or tell me how you guys dealt with the problem (some info on your setup would be great as well)

Thanks in advance

Have u tried creating custom connection setup through PS3 Network Settings by entering your username & password through PPoE. You will get NAT Type 1 straight away.

For some reason, it fails to connect when i go through PPPoE ..... =/

Is that generally how you guys acquired the Nat 1 or 2?
I've read quite a fair bit of suggestion online and tried those I've seen, but I still get stuck with Nat 3.

I've left Sony a message and I don't think their's much Streamyx can do for me.
Anymore suggestions?

Yea, it just shows up as Failed at I.P when I test the connection. 'The attempt to obtain an IP adress timed out'.

Do you know if there alot of people in Malaysia with this problem or just a few?
Because I was thinking it might be Streamyx's firewall or something..... I'm not sure, just using what I read online.

You're not using router, right? Just direct connection from Streamyx modem to your PS3?

Then, there should be no problem. You can try resetting your modem back to default settings.

Most probably, PPoE already auto-setup inside your modem, causing the IP time-out.

Well, not necessarily to get a new modem, coz with modem + router you can still get NAT Type 2 which is recommended as well for PS3 connection. NAT Type 1 is better in terms of hosting games and stuff. But, getting NAT Type 2 is not bad either.

The only thing is now how to get that on your modem. Normally, when you use internet on your PC, you dial-up to Streamyx everytime or automatically connected when boot-up PC?

try to enable DHCP function inside ur modem/router, every router should have this function. Look like the modem failed to assign IP addres to your PS3

Just my 2 cent.

If it's connect automatically, then PPoE details already setup inside your modem.

Have you tried to enable DMZ against PS3 IP?

ps: can you post your modem router model number/name?

And, can you try the following method, especially the port forward settings:
